I used a glass of water to bust my roommate.
I walked out of my room and closed the door most of the way, then with the little space left, I reached around the door and placed a 1/2 a glass of water close to it. Then shut the door.
When I got home, the glass was FULL, but the floor was wet under the carpet......BUSTED!
Just remember you left it there when you come home. Since it is water it doesnt cause any real damage.
Cheap.....actually it is free.

If you do want to know with out having to set up a cam put a couple of things in certain places and remember exactly how you have them because only you will know if they were moved but in the long run if that does not help get a new roommate

Stick a tiny strip of clear tape between the bottom of the door and the frame, so that it's not noticeable to anyone who doesn't know where to look for it. If the door is opened the tape will be pulled away. That way you can tell if someone's been in your room! You can also stick little pieces of tape in various other spots like the closet door and underneath drawers, so you can tell exactly what she's going through.

Webcam. Simply buy a webcam if you don't have one already (you obviously have a computer), she won't think anything about you having a webcam.
Then set it to record and turn your screen off, she won't know a thing. And if you have a removable hard-drive, use that because it has more space and there is more chance at recording.
Oh, and turn the sound off too, if your compuer makes a noise she'll know it's on.

well, try to figure out what areas of your room she may be getting into.
My mom goes through my stuff in my room and i know 100% when she does because I remember how I have stuff arranged in my room.
You could take a picture of certain areas of your room and when you think she has gone through stuff, check the pictures. Would be a more cost effective way than buying a video camera.

a cheap way is to put a match stick balanced on the door or just inside the draws or cupboard, place it just so you can see the tip but it is not visible to anyone not looking for it you can also use a hair grip, place them in a certain way and if necessary mark a faint pencil line to show where it was, if someone has been in you will see it as they will not notice the items or if they do will not know where they come from, it worked with my sisters when we were younger, hope this helps you it is horrible when someone is going through your stuff.

Just put in a lock, no reason to start any accusations or tricks. A lock will solve the whole problem, it's easier than trying to find a new roommate, right?

this may sound funny but you can tape a piece of uncooked, therefore, brittle piece of spaghetti somewhere unoticeable that you can see before you open the door. If they are going in when you arrive home the spaghetti will be broken. Or you can just stick a piece of clear tape over an unoticeable piece of the door to the same affect that if it's broken or not stuck you know.

set a trap, purposely put your things in a certain order and if it's moved you got her. or you could put a small lock on the outside of your door, if she questions you confront her. or you can place a small tape recorder in your room. but if you feel like your space is being violated, you probably should ask your roommate what's up anyway.

when you leave your room, slip a piece of paper, where it can not be seen, between the door and the door jam. If when you get home and the paper is on the floor(check before you open it) then you know she has been in there. Good luck
