If Maria bought one CD, how would you compute her bill? How about two CDs? Three? You should be seeing a pattern now. Make a general equation that uses a variable for the number of CDs, and has a total of $85.65.

6.

Subtract 1.95 from 85.65. Then divide the answer by 13.95.

If 1 disc costs 13.95 +1.95 s/h= 15.90
then 85.65/15.90= 5 (5.38 discs)

83.70 / 13.95 = 6

13.95X + 1.95 = 85.65
13.95X = 83.70
X = 83.70 / 13.95
X = 6

Maria bought 6 CD's.
