I need to write a story or essay on this topic but i don't understand the point of this.Could it be-to see how something good is, we need to put it next to something bad?

I am assuming the quote means: That things happen for a reason, and everything has a ripple effect, because lots of things are dependent on each other.

That's the basic idea. If you were never hungry, you would never enjoy eating the way that you do when you do get really hungry.
