I am thinking my boyfriend got 2 dozen roses and gave another girl 10...because I got 14 roses and that's kind of an odd number..isn't it supposed to be a dozen?

dozen is normal, the two extras are 1 for a hug, and other for a kiss.

Around here, instead of price wars, the folks selling flowers will say "Bakers dozen" (13) or '15 For the price of 12'.
They were probably going with '14 for the price of 12'.
That's all.
If he bought 2 dozen, he would have probably split them down the middle, rather than having you wonder about 14 and the other girl about 10 , like you are obsessing now.

you really can buy how many you can afford.maybe he could only afford 14 instead of 24.
