I recently came across this article of a newly discovered pure carbon star on universe today, anyone else heard of this discovery ? check the link,,

I want to add that the core is pure carbon and not the entire star.. my mistake

That was a blast from the past for me. I almost forgot about those. Yes, I believe many white dwarfs have cores they believe are carbon because that would be the highest element that could be synthesized in stars in a certain range of mass.

And because of the pressures involved, I wonder if these might actually be planet-sized diamonds, in the cooler white dwarfs.

science is full of these 'theoretical' things, but you and i know that the universe works by Murphy's Law.

once it gets up there in % of carbon, the fusion would just fall apart.

nothing is pure but my sweet Irish mommie.
