I've read so many medical questions here. Why waste time asking people online about your medical problems when there are doctors who go to school to know what is wrong and how to treat it.

In Canada I can go see a doctor at no charge to me if I have the sniffles. Maybe if your government (ie: US) isn't taking care of your medical needs you should do something. Stand up for your rights!!

Well I agree with you in some respect. People who have major symptoms or chronic conditions do need to see a doctor instead of relying on the advice here. Also, a lot of people ask questions like "I throw up a lot, what could that be?". Well the list is endless so obviously we can't do anything here.
But some people already have been diagnosed with a disease and come on here to ask questions for other people with the same condition to answer, which I think is a good thing since it provides a way to get support from other people going through the similar thing. Also, for the simple questions like what do I do for a cold or general knowledge questions this can be a good resource without the half-brained morons and their stupid answers. But people shouldn't be relying on Yahoo Answers to diagnose their condition.
And, yes, here in the U.S. health care is *very* expensive. We can't just snap our fingers and fix it like you say. Health insurance is not cheap in any sense of the word, nor is it easy to get for a lot of people. Health care is a huge industry here, it isn't like up in Canada.

1.) Moral support. They want someone to listen to them and reassure them. They may still be planning to go to a doctor, but they're nervous in the time it takes before they can get an appointment.

2.) Doctors may be professional, but they aren't perfect. Sometimes doctors overlook or are unaware of certain conditions. This is especially true if you have a rare disorder at a young age. In some of these cases, it can make a world of difference to find someone else on the Internet who has the same symptoms and ask your doctor to run different tests.

Also, in case you're not aware, there's a huge call in the United States for government-sponsored health care but things like that don't happen overnight. Maybe someday.

Why do people ask most of the questions they ask here?

80% of the questions you can cut/paste into google search bar to get the answer.

Who freaking knows if your pregnant? Just answer yes when asked;)

Have fun with the homework helpers and give them the wrong answer. They won't know which is right/wrong - they are to lazy/dumb to do research.

Just shows how dumb some people are - scary isn't it.

you pay for that Dr. visit sweetie - with the very high tax rate you have in Canada. But I can come to Canada and get my health care issues covered on your dime.

I was very sick a year ago and went to see more than thirty different doctors, none of them could diagnose it so I thought I would see if someone here had heard of something, it didn't help, but it was worth a shot.

Maybe some of them are among the 43 million people in the U.S. who don't have health insurance.

"... when they can go see a professional doctor" might be a little easier said than done for many people.

Money my friend, why would you make an appt with your dentist ($75+) when you have sore gums, just ask us, we will tell you to brush you teeth, check if you have any teeth coming in, give advise about different treatments and possibilities, and even give references if we live in the same area.
