I was in Detroit a few days ago and stopped at a gas station. The gas station attendant sold a cigarette to an old man. Therefore, yes it is possible

Not that I know of but have heard some small mom and pop stores do it even though I think it is illegal to open a pack and sell one by one as they make more money than the posted cost of the package.

It is not... unless you want to buy tubes, tobacco, and papers to roll your own.
You can buy single cigars, or cigarellos (cigar that looks a lot like a cigarette), but if you're looking for a single cigarette your best bet would be to find a friend who smokes and offer to buy a cigarette from them.

Sometimes in the US, but usually just in the hood. They call them loosies in Cleveland, too. It's illegal, but what else is new? They still do it. It's a waste of money, though, if you ask me. You end up paying far more then you would if you just bought a whole pack.

Not in Canada anymore.
When I was in Venezuela, I would buy singles at sidewalk newspaper stands. I wish you could do that here, I would probably smoke less.

You used to be able to buy them years ago when I was young. It cost 10p and you sometimes got a match with it. No longer able to sell them as singles. Have to buy a ten pack.

No, but I am sure some dodgy shop keepers will split packs at around 3pm when the schools close.
