6-3/4 = 6-6/8
6-6/8 + 3-1/8 = 9-7/8

The most simple way is to first turn them both into fractions by multiplying the whole number by the denominator and adding it to the numerator:

6 3/4 = (6*4+3)/4 = 27/4
3 1/8 = (3*8+1)/8 = 25/8

Then to find the GCD, which is 8

27/4 = 54/8 --- Both numerator and denominator are multiplied by two.
And the second one is already there.

Then add, which since the denominators are the same, the answer will be the sum of the numerators over the denomintor

(54+25)/8 = 79/8

Then divide to see how many times 8 will go into 79. The remainder will be expressed as the fraction R/8

79/8 = 9 7/8.

Also, you could just do it without turning them into improper fractions. Simply find the GCD and then add the whole number and the fraction separately. If you get a improper fraction, divide and add the whole number to the quotient and the remainer will be R/8.

6 3/4 + 3 1/8 = 6 6/8 + 3 1/8 = 9 7/8

You have to do this:
You have to change the denominators to 8. the numerator of 3/4 is 6. So the fraction would be 6/8. the numerator for 1/8 would be the same. So the fraction would be 1/8. Then you add 6/8 and 1/8 together. That gives you an answer of 7/8. Then you add the 6 and 3 together. That gives you an answer of 9. So your answer would be 9 7/8.
( Hope that makes sense.)

find the common denominator for the fraction part
3/4 equals to 6/8 by mulitiply 2 to it (3/4 times 2/2 =6/8) and since 1/8 has the same denominator as before add the two fractions up
6/8 + 1/8 =7/8
then add 6+3=9 so the answer should be 9 and 7/8
i hope i did it right! It has been so long!LOL like 8 years! Good luck
