I just bought a Dell inspirion computer this afternoon as a Christmas gift to the family.

It comes with a 19'' WideScreen LCD HD Monitor, 2.1 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 4000+, 16 DVD-RW, 320 GB hard drive/ 7200 rpm, 2 GB of DDR2 system memory- 667 MHz, 13-in-1 digital media card reader and the mouse/keyboard.

It was $698 (w/o tax) but, with the my employee discount and Christmas bonus I got it for $590 (w/ tax). Is this a good deal? Do you think that is a good speed processor and enough memory space for Windows Vista? Let me know your input. Thanks.

P.S. Here is the link for the computer...http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7810487

That's a well-specced machine that is pretty much future-proof for family use. You didn't state the graphics capability but if there's a serious gamer in the house you could always add a NVIDIA GeForce or Radeon graphics card.

It will be fine for Vista (ugh!!!) but I'm sticking with XP Pro (note that XP Home Edition does not support hyperthreading, which takes advantage of the dual core processor).

Considering that the starting price is the same price it was sell for on Dell's website, the discounted price with tax sounds like a very good deal. The processor speed should be fine for Vista, as will the RAM. Depending on whose in your family (any boys who like to play higher end games?) you may want to get a better graphics card, but for general use, that PC is fine.

Its a good system at a fair price. It will run vista no problem, just make sure you purchase the 64bit version to get the full benifit.

Since you already bought it, stop worrying about it -- at best it won't make you any happier; at worst you'll feel bad.
