yahoo finance is actually a good site. I have competed in these back when I was in school. If there is only one winner, 1st place, then you will have to take on a high level of risk one or two stocks, it is play money after all. Don't diversify or play it safe, while this is a good real life strategy you will not win the game if you use this for your situation. I like the motley fool @ fool.com

Hi James,

I think you should do 1 of 2 things:

1. Focus on buying and selling stocks that are a dollar or less. Trade the ups and downs, trying to profit a few cents each swing.

2. Focus on making good trades with a defined method. Use this class exercise to actually learn to trade.

When I was invested in a mutual fund, one of my favorite sites was money.cnn.com, which has a lot of good information.

Because of the current market, the best advice I can give is to stay away from financial stocks (i.e. wells fargo, bank of america), and invest in low-risk, high-cap stocks like Microsoft, Pfizer, and other reputable companies.

Dude, you want high growth stocks that have large price fluctuations each day. Here's a few off the top of my head might work for you:

FCX
FTEK
AAPL
CHL
UBB
JEC

Try looking around this web site for ideas:

James - I trade stocks. Buy into Citigroup (Ticker Symbol 'C') and Avanex Corp (Ticker Symbol 'AVNX').

AVNX swings a lot, so when you get a gain sell it, then wait for it to come back down.
