I work with a bunch of stick in the mud old farts.
Instead of bowling, mini golf , go to a nice resturant, or anything to get out of the office - they elected to have a crappy catered lunch in our abondoned cafeteria that smells like a dirty diaper - Any good excuses not to go. My boss will
play 20 questions if i dont attend.

It would be nice if you made an apearence the party, but its not required. I personally have never gone to one single office party in the 10 years I've been working.. I m not really a party person, and large crowds freak me out. its not anybodies business what you do with your personal time out of of the office.. all you have to say is " someone came up" or " it was a family matter". your boss doesnt have the right to question what you do..

wheather you have other plans or are staying home to watch Cagney and Lacey. ( Joke!) its your business..

then suggest a different location or party idea for the next one..

Bite the bullet and attend, if only to make an appearance for 10 or 15 minutes. An office party is an extension of business and your presence should be made. If you intend to try and change the location fro next year, you can; 1) find the rankest smelling area in your cafeteria and call your boss over to it and have a general conversation and wish him/her a happy holiday and make him/her linger in the odor for a while which may cause him/her to have thoughts of relocating the party or clean up the cafeteria or both, or 2) take the bull by the horns and volunteer to be the party organizer for the next party and put out a list of suggested locations to have it at.
