How do I solve this polynomial inequality?

(x – 4)(x + 2) > 0

The product will be positive if both factors
are positive or both are negative.
They are both positive if x > 4
and both negative if x < -2
So the answer to your question is
x < -2 or x > 4.

FOIL----first, outer, inner, last

(x^2 +2x -4x -8) >0

add like terms

(x^2 -2x -8) >0 <-----answer
