Shank it to cut you. It is a prison term. In prison they don't have knifes for obvious reasons but necessity is the mother of all invention. Prisoners takes every day things and make knife like things called a shank or a shive. Then when they use it they have shanked that person instead of stab. The term got pop culture acclaim in the 80's and 90's with the movie Shaw Shank Redemtion. Then with subsequent prison movies and TV shows. So if some one says that to you it is a threat on your life it is the same as saying I am going to stab or shoot you. However since this is in the adolescent section teens maybe using it and a play term. Like I can't believe you got an A on the test I got a B I am going to shank you. In that context it is playful I guess

Well Shank is usually a prison term for a "homemade" knife. The "shanks" can be made out of pretty much anything including a toothbrush. So I'd say that it more then likely means "I'm gonna stab you"
