IV means Intravenous, a fluid that is given through a vein for many reasons. Yeah, medical terms can be difficult to figure out unless you have some medical knowledge. I hope that this helped.

"IV" stands for "intravenous". It means putting a small cathetar in someone's vein to give them fluids and medications.

the word iv means: i=intra or into and v=vein..... put it all together and you have..................
into the vein.
hopefully not outside, or through or collapsed etc. vein....ouch!
even more and besides that an excellant dr., nurse, lab tech, phlebotomist etc. can actually perform the necessary iv without pain...... imagine that! someone sticking a needle into your vein without you feeling pain...maybe just a little bit of pressure but no pain!!!!!!!!1

Intravenous - any drug in liquid form injected through a tube into your body as opposed to given in the form of a tablet or medicine.
