it makes sense to me -- but for a very bizarre reason.
the copper in water combination tricks insects into thinking it's a thunderstorm and they go idle [i know, wierd, but I've used it in the barn for years to keep the flies at bay -- it causes all the flies to stay on the ground rather than fly around]. Exactly how it would help a tree? I don't know... but may as well try it...
Best thing I know of to keep a tree fresh [and I'll often keep mine 4-6 weeks] is to make sure you trim 2" off the bottom and immediately put it in water, then keep watering the tree everyday as needed -- the first week or two, it will often take a gallon or more per day. The more water it uses in the first week or two, the longer the tree will last.

All I heard about was aspirin and it doesn't work. Our trees always died in a week - that's why we have a fake tree.
