I'd rather vote for someone whose stance on important issues I agree with, than vote for the idiot I'd like to have a beer with.

I vote for the candidate by judging his response to the 'issues.' Most of the time, the 'issues' that are dominating the debates aren't really issues I'm concerned with.
For example, the immigration issue isn't my major concern, but the devaluing of our currency and deficit spending is a major concern. The media seems to ignore the latter, while promoting the former like it is the most critical component of this election.
By judging the response to the issues, I feel that I can gauge how the candidate will respond when an issue actually comes up that I am concerned with.

There is more than one issue that affects me. Since I am human and not a robot, the multiple issues that define a party platform do always fit me 100%. Since there is no one size fits all party, I doubt that either party fits anybody completely. However there are candidates that I believe are in the 85 to 95 percentile range as far as matching my positions on the issues. These are the ones I consider when deciding who to vote for. Anything less I believe represents a compromise vote and I will only hold my nose and vote in this scenario to attain the lesser of two evils. Fortunately in 2008, that is not the case.

I'm a realist: for the most part, I have no real input into what the "issues" are, and I don't get to pick the candidate (the best I can do is vote and send particular candidates money), and 90% of the time politicians are just yabbering (and some will promise any old thing), so ....
I figure there are two parties. If one of them gets out of hand like the Republicans have, then I throw my support to the other party until they turn out to be the problem eventually.
That's what I like about having two major political parties: it provides a means to send a clear message that it's time to clean house and change direction.

I vote for the candidate that comes closest to my own beliefs. NEVER is it about only one issue. Even on ballot propositions I ponder both sides and decide which I agree with most. Sometimes I agree with the majority and sometimes I don't. The beauty of it all is that I have the right to do that.

i've got self assurance a candidate's stance on gay marriage inspired my vote interior the previous yet no longer now. i'm no longer able to assist yet another baby-kisser who makes use of God as a reason to no longer help gay marriage. There are some people who have self assurance that God condems gay marriage and a few who do no longer. Legally, no person's perception may be held in bigger regard. because of the fact of this gay marriage is a becoming sort of transforming into lawful. As for the two contemporary applicants, they're entitled to their very own ideals with regard to the undertaking. i do no longer think of i'm going to turn to the two of them, even regardless of the undeniable fact that, as a ethical or non secular instruction manual to make up my very own recommendations.

Both. First I look at the issues to see which candidates agree with me the most. Then I look at a candidate's record to see if he/she tends to keep their promises. If both of these criteria are met, then yay!

The one that seems to be the most genuine regardless of what issues they will effect. They will just lead us better if they genuinely care about the country they are leading and if they genuinely want to make a difference and help people.
