The earned income credit is now probably no longer going to be usable, since you're married and even if you both file seperately your JOINT income will now be used as to whether you still qualify for EIC. I lost my EIC when I got married and that was a hard thing to give up considereing we/I now get like 1/2 the $ back I used to. I actually purposely didn't want to get married from the tax money I was getting back when I was a single mom w/2 kids and the one income.

Married Filing Jointly is still eligible for EIC, but your joint income could be too high.

If you file separately, that's allowed, but you wouldn't be eligible for EIC on a separate return.

Officially, try the tax returns both ways and file the combination that generates the biggest refund for your household.

No, now that you are married your filing status choices are married joint or married filing separately - anyone filing as married filing separately is not eligible for EIC. If your joint incomes meet the requirements, you can get EIC if you file joint. You can't file single since you aren't single.

I'd think you would save more if you file jointly. Just from what I have read over the years on taxes and marrieds.
