I want to hear from anyone who actually auditioned or knew someone who did. I want to know what to expect once we get to the auditon...vote for the 8 year old she is sure to get to the second round. you'll see her on TV I know it!!!

My daughter is friends with members of Jonny Come Lately. They had a lot of fun but said it's a VERY long process and can get somewhat tedious, not to mention you need to be right there with your daughter in case of inappropriate behavior while adults are storming off the set or possibly falling off the wagon (if you know what I mean). Bring snacks and activities for when you have to wait, not to mention layered clothing since weather is iffy and so is the studio temperature. If she's singing, bring something for her to sing to, warm up with, etc. You may also want to bring a cd or tape of her performing in case something happens and you need a backup for them to see (she zonks out, has a meltdown, etc.) They're more likely to give her another shot if you have proof she can actually perform. Also, as hard as it will be for an 8 year old to do this, she'll need to be camera ready at a moments notice. You never know when a crew will come down the line and stop on her and ask her to sing right NOW.

The other thing... you have to know when to say enough's enough. Above all, she's an 8 year old girl. If she's that talented you don't need a reality show to tell you that. The chances of her actually winning are astronomical no matter how talented she is. Why not get her an agent and start getting paid now for her doing things instead of putting her through an arduous contest? Just a thought. I don't know any of the small contestants and whether or not they truly had fun. Some kids are very resiliant and can smile and perform no matter what. If that's your daughter, then go for it. Just take your cues from her and always let her call it off at any time no matter what. She's the boss.

Maybe you could get a hotel room nearby and have your significant other or a friend bring your daughter to the line after a good night's sleep (if they allow that)? Ask a vocal coach how you should deal with being ready vocally and waiting in line for hours... they may have some good tips especially if you have extreme weather in your area. I'm sure it would be worth a few sessions though your daughter is young and many voice teachers / coaches won't work with small children. A coach is more likely to help you prepare for this one event.

good luck,
Marianne
