I heard the word this morning on NPR on my way to work, but now I can't remember what it was...The word refers to the history of all people/parties that have owned a particular work of art...Can anybody help me out with this??? Thanks!

I believe that 'provenance' is the word you're looking for.

The word is "provenance." It refers not only to the history of who has owned a particular work, but also to the circumstances surrounding transfers of ownership and places where it was displayed. Some provevances will also list any publications that feature a given piece. So, while a painting may only have been owned by Dr. Lisa Smith, she may have loaned it to the Museum of Modern Art for an exhibit and included in an Article in ARTnews about the artist.
