To give details, i only have 20,000 miles on car within 1 year, but all tires showing heavy wear and I have rotated tires 3x (every time change oil). I have been told many times by my guy that changes my oil & by numerous others to get new tires.
There are Toyos on them right now, but forums I have visited tend to show that this car has this problem with tires. Heavy wear & tear. I have no idea what they mean by ASX or tbm? whatever. Can anyone help just explain what the heck i should be looking for?? Christmas money is going toward new tires because it's raining tons here now. Just need a objective opinion, not a salesperson's. Thanks to any help!!!!

my driving habits are not extreme. I have a 6-year old, and i wouldnt dare "burn rubber" or take turns erratically. i do a lot of driving, with work, school, activities, etc. But i did notice from the other forums, that many others have this same problem of the tires needing to be replaced within 25k miles. why is this such a problem?

Mazda5 is a new model, 2006. Like a mini - minivan! like they tried to combine the MPV with the Mazda3 hatchback.

Toyo is a good brand, but most OEM tires suck. Often, you will find that good tire and bad tire have more to do with the design and compound than the brand name.
A good starting point is to go to tirerack.com. You can find a replacment tire according to category such as "performance all-season" and then read the survey and user reviews. discounttire.com also has similar feature on their website.
Personally, I like the following and why:
1) Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S - Excellent review, all around good tire for dry, wet and snow! Tires are quiet, comfortable and long lasting. The only downsize is the prize ($170 per tire, could be more depending on size)
2) Yokohama YK520 - Very good review. Cheaper than the Michelin. Great all around tire and estimated wear is 50-60k. Downside: It is only available at Discount Tire. Could become an issue if there is not one around you and if you have a blow out and need a replacement. Tire wall is on the soft side makes for a comfortable ride, but some handling is traded for that.
3) Kumho Ecsta ASX - Probably cheapest tire on the list. Great performance overall though I have heard complain in snow. Handling is said to be great. Available everywhee.
4) Toyo Proxes4 - what I have on my car for the past 30k. Quiet, good handling, very good performance in dry and wet. Snow performance is marginal at best. If you live where you have snow on the ground, I would pay more and get the yk520 or Michelin above.
5) BF Goodrich gforce Sport - more performance oriented and good overall tire.
As you see, the ASX as you mentioned is simply a model of Tire manufactured by Kumho Tires, like your Mazda5 is a model manufactured by Mazda. I have a Protege5 and I have Toyo Proxes4 and they do well in dry and wet weather. My only complain with them is the snow performance.
The factors to consider is price (otherwise, I would just buy the Michelin and call it a day), dry performance, wet performance, performance in snow if you intend to do light driver with them through the winter, treadwear index (the higher the better), and the technical aspect (speed index, load index, but if you go with any one of the above, they should all exceed OEM recommendations), To a lesser extent, the availability of the tires play a role in the event you sustain a blowout and need a replacement.
Not to confuse you more, but some people dislike directional tire because they want to be able to rotate the tires between the left and right side instead of front and back only.
Good luck and have fun shopping!

Toyo's are actually very good tires. I have an '07 3 with 20k on its Toyo's. You may want to just go with a higher grade of Toyo however the best tire you can buy is a Michelin. Good Years are not at the quality that they used to be when they were made in the states, they are now made in Mexico. I would price out Toyo and Michelin.

After I left that comment I noticed my tires are almost worn out aswell. I asked my boyfriend (works at a tire shop) about it and he said that since they are speed rated tires they will wear out much faster. You probably have the same thing. Good luck.

There are many good brands out there--I like Michelin the best, but they are more expensive than some. I wouldnt get Toyos again. You should be able to find good tires for about $60 each for a 15 inch tire, a little more for 16 inch. Get the size that Mazda recommends for your car, any good tire store will know what size it is.

Check if your wheels are in proper alignment. If not, your tires will wear fast. Driving habits also affect tire wear. Burning rubber and sliding through corners makes them wear real fast too.
Take a look at this web site: www.tirerack.com
They have test information for most tires, including a wear factor.
