There is probably a redemption period if you purchased this through a tax deed, tax sale or tax auction. You do not indicate where you are, but a few states have extremely long redemption periods. Louisiana comes to mind, with the redemption period there being three YEARS. Until the redemption period has passed, don't consider it your property. You won't be able to do anything with it.

The right of redemption is based on the type of property. I would talk with your lawyer about this. Can't answer it here.

As for ways to make money with land.

Rent it out as a farm
Rent it out as a tree farm
Rent it out as a rec area (if it's near water, etc)

HOwver, anything that you do with the land, you will need to check on zoning.
