I ordered a new notebook from HP on December 1. It's gone to the factory for "building". They estimate it to be "built" by December 11. Does it really take 10 days to put it together? Or is that just a "safe" estimate? Do they usually take longer? Do they usually ship sooner than their expected build/ship dates?

thank you, but what i'm REALLY asking/wondering is this: even though it says they will complete it by the 11th, do you think they will REALLY take that long? has anyone ordered from them and they really took as long as stated? THAT is my question, i suppose. Also, they're shipping it 2nd day (on them), as they have screwed up the order 4 times before finally getting it right!

This time of year, when lots and lots of people are ordering PCs for Christmas, 10 days sounds about right. But it is an "estimate". I have seen HP meet, miss and be ahead of the date. So the best estimate is "10 days".
