I know how you feel, I've had many office parties I've dreaded, and you should trust your instincts. Life's too short, and employment too fickle, to torture yourself at a "must attend" party for no reason.
Here are some ways you can get out of this…
1. Act like you're planning to attend, then call in sick that morning, return to work the next day disappointed you had to miss so much fun due to a (stomach thing, migraine, toothache, family emergency, power loss, minor flood from water heater)
2. Work the morning, and around 11:00 rush for the bathroom with terrible cramps (You will have already mentioned, in passing, that you might have eaten something questionable the night before). You can feign a migraine or toothache the same way, just remember to be believable on the buildup.
3. You can also try the emergency (kids school, hubby's work, other family/friend in distress) phone call. Just be sure you have someone reliable call you at the right time, just before 12:00 would be best. To make this work, don't give too much detail, get the call, grab your stuff and get out. After the fact you can explain, if anyone remembers to ask.
4. If you're not comfortable with these, why not slip out to do a "quick errand" before the party starts, maybe 11:30 (something you just remembered, or simply cannot do another time) and then never return for the party. The next day tell everyone, with the proper amount of despair, all about your horrible afternoon due to a minor car accident, flat tire, waiting for the oil man/cable guy/delivery guy, dishwasher flood, etc.
Hope these help, and enjoy your holiday,
Sue

Act like you are looking forward to it , just like
everyone else.........Then just before the party is to start
get an "emergency" phone call from home, school, where ever
Leave quickly without explanation (with A look of urgency on
your face) apologize that you cannot attend the party.
Everyone else will be rushing to the party so very little
will be noticed.
Now your only problem is to come up with A good story to tell
the next morning as concerned co-workers (and just plain nosy ones) will surely be asking what happened !

Actually schedule a donation at your local Red Cross. How can they argue against such a humane gesture.

Tell them you have a project to work on. Make a doctors appointment. Have car trouble getting there, if it is off property.

Dr appt that has been scheduled for months in advance. If anyone asks for details, just say "women's issues". That usually gets them to back off.

You are feeling sick, and you absolutely have to meet a critical deadline on a project. Otherwise, you wouldn't have even come in that day.
