I have a 99' silverado 5.3 liter with a 10480229W alternator in it that is having some issues. Want to buy a 15755616W from a friend to replace. His alternator is from a '04 Z71 and works fine. Will this alternator bolt up and run with no problems? They look the same but I have to ask..don't want to deep fry any electrical componets or anything.

Take the numbers to your GM Parts guy. He can tell you.

If it's the same physically and rated either the same or close to it as far as output goes, it will be fine. There are only two wires to these so that shouldn't be a problem. The only thing I would make sure to look at is the outputs. Some are rated at 100A and others at 140A. You can fry a wiring harness if you try to push too much current through an underrated wire.

The voltage regulators are inside the alternator housings and the GM one-wire system is compatible with anything. So if it physically fits and the pulleys line up then you are home free.
