No...who determines what emergency is important enough to not inform the American people? This would be misused, just like everything else in govt.

I actually think yes but the real question is what is an emergency and how long does it continue.
It also happens in America and in Western Europe too much even.
Fact is Chavez never declared not once that kind of emergency and again today is accepting the result of the election proving once again he is a Democratically elected leader who's demonized by the West unfairly. Chavez is a threat to no one but the economic interests of the United States and big business.

Absolutely not!!! No! No! No! A thousand times NO!!!
Where else do you think Bush would have invaded if he had the control to totally censor the media following 9/11?
As it is, he already had the political capital and power with his ridiculously high popularity numbers after 9/11 to put heavy pressure on the media (by way of their advertisers) not to run stories that were critical of the Administration's run up to war with Iraq.
If you haven't seen this video yet, you should. It's not conspiracy theory, it's fact. It comes from Bill Moyers, one of the great journalists of our time.

No although the media needs to practice very very good reporting during times of emergency in order to prevent a bigger mess from happening

No.
There should not be any media censorship, period.
It is up to the govt. to protect it's secrets and we cannot have a successful, open, democratic republic when censorship of the citizens or the media is allowed by the govt.
If our govt. does that, then it is no better than Venezuela or China.
