Xbox 360 has only First Person Shooters.. THAT'S ALL THEIR GOOD FOR.
I like the Ps3 for a couple of reasons:
Sony actually listens to their consumers..When the Ps3 came out we grumbled it had no Rumble. Now in spring 2008 DUALSHOCK 3, is coming with Rumble and Sixaxis.
Does Microsoft listen to customers? No... Since their Xbox 360 failures 5% of the time (1 out of 20) all they did was extend the warranty to three years...WOW...
Everyone I know is on their second Xbox 360 cause the first one broke.
Xbox 360 hardware woes
Microsoft really hit it out of the park when it came to the Xbox 360's software—consider the slick Dashboard, the persistent Achievements and Gamertags, and the top-notch Xbox Video Marketplace. But the actuall 360 hardware is a disaster: chronically glitchy, prone to overheating, and all too susceptible to the "Red Ring of Death," which signals a critical hardware failure. Indeed, I'm already on my second Xbox 360 in barely a year, and just about every 360 owner I know has had to send their console back to Redmond for repair. In June, Microsoft finally did the right thing and owned up to the shoddy state of its hardware, extending the Xbox 360's warranty to a full three years and taking a $1 billion charge in the process.
Thats hilarious now lets get down to the comparison.
People don't understand..prices JUST THINK
I'm going buy their highest price models..
Playstation 3 is $599 for an 80gig...OK EXPENSIVE WE KNOW
Xbox 360 is $449 for a Elite...
By the year 2009, excluding games, and including Internet fees you would have paid..$600 dollars for your Xbox 360 to use all it features...
To me it's the same price, you can see it anyway you want but it is.
Ah there is a lot of good and bad between both of them. If you are a movie lover and do not want to dish out $200-400 on a HD DVD Player which you will probably need by 2009, then Ps3 is the way to go because the DVD player that's built in it is incredible and next gen. If games are what you want and you want to play online constantly and compete with others all over the world, I would say the Ps3 because it's 100% free online and Xbox 360 is $50 a year for online so you're pretty much paying the difference between the price in about 3 years.
All right lets get down to opinions. When it comes down to technology, I leave it the Asians and not Americans. Windows Vista is a disaster and proves Microsoft makes a lot of mistakes.
Both consoles are buggy because they were rush to the shelves but Xbox 360 failure rate is higher than Ps3. Xbox 360 currently has this thing called 'red ring of death' which means your gaming system is finished unless you send it to Microsoft and they fix it.
If you send it to Microsoft, you have to wait about a month and half to get it back and it could get stolen in the mail. A lot of people aren't trusthworthy.
One good thing I can say about Microsoft is that they are very good at persuading. They pay companies a lot of money to keep games exclusive to their system, games like Gears of War, Bioshock, and Halo. These games make people buy their system but in the long run Sony has good credibility.
Xbox 360 is up in sales but Sony has always been reliable in the years to come. The games and equipment they will dish out in unmatched and Xbox 360 cannot compete.
I can name great upcoming games exclusive for the Ps3 and I can name great games exclusive for the Xbox.
Is the Ps3 worth the money...YES..it is it's worth every penny and its now $400 dollars for a 40 gigabyte version, better than it was a year ago. Although Xbox 360 is cheap in 3 years you will pay more than you did for the Ps3 minus the games.
The new 40gig version is less buggy than the 360 and probably won't have any problems.
When Playstation 2 came out I remember sitting around months on end waiting for a good games then Sony came rushing to shelves with great stuff.
Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3
God of War
Gradius
Manhunt
Devil May Cry series
Grand Theft Auto series
Everytime I finished a game another one came out..
It always been like this, Developers had 2 years to dish out stuff for Xbox 360 and learn it's components. Of course Xbox 360 is going to be everyone favorite now.
But don't count Sony out...they've always pulled the rabbit out the hat. By December of 2008, Ps3 will conquer all once more.
People forgot that Xbox 360 had a FULL YEAR but the Ps3 is still right behind them. A full year so of course Xbox 360 games will be better, of course there is more people online, and of course people will discredit the Ps3.
Sony has never failed when it comes to games. When the Playstation came out (Sony's first system), it blew Nintendo and Dreamcast sales out the water. It took Xbox 2 systems to catch up and get it right and they still haven't.
The Xbox 360 have a 5% failure rate.. That is 1 out of 20. If condoms had a %5 failure rate, the U.S. population would surpass China.
People say Xbox 360 has a mix array of games but their best games top 3 is a First Person Shooter..Thats not a mix array people..
If you're going buy the system on the base of games.. pick up a GameInformer magazine from a Supermarket or game store and just see what games you like. Good luck.

The PS3 doesn't have the majority of the games that the Xbox 360 offers. Therefore the xbox 360 can be played and enjoyed by a more abroad age group. The 360 has games for kids, teens, 18+, and all the in betweens. The PS3 mostly has teen and 18+ games. The 360 just has a lot better quality games and variety to choose from.

Ouch this is tough, My boys are 4 and 6 and we have all three systems. Most of the use for them right now is the Wii. My 13 year old nephew plays nothing but 360.
PS3 has excellent graphics and fun games for you like Rainbow Six Vegas, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc and your girls will enjoy ratchet and Clank and some other games.
You might want to look into getting them Nintendo DSs they can play them and if they both had them they could play them with each other wirelessly.
PS3s have never had overheating issues, that was the 360 and I believe the 360's heating issues have been taken care of.

My advice would be the Xbox 360 overall. If you want to get something that involves Fashion for your daughter try this. There are several plug and play type electronics targeted at fashion and things like that. Project Gotham 4 racing is a lot like Gran Turismo and you can play older xbox games on your console. See below for an example of the P&P I spoke of.

I'd vote for the 360. I think they've finally got the bugs out. (Never buy a launch product!) They've also extended the warranty, to cover the poor folks who got the bum machines. I've never played Wii. It looks like fun, but I'd imagine you'd get tired after awhile. I might be good for certain games, but not all. I sometimes play pc games or xbox for hours and hours. Don't see that happening on a Wii. Maybe that's a good thing. I'd take a 360 over a PS3 because I prefer 360's games. To be honest, I play more games on my pc than my xbox. I like FPS's, and other than maybe Halo, I like them better on a pc. Wouldn't it be nice if they weren't so expensive and we could have them all?

The Wii might suit a younger child but it mighn't be much good for older users, especially a 42 year old. The Xbox is the obvious next choice as it has a much better range of games at the moment. I have a PS3 myself and I'm very happy with it. overall I think the Xbox would be the best compromise for all three of ye.

well, im a huge gamer, i am 18 and play 2 games at a proffessinal level, ok PS3 is definitly out of the picture do to its high cost, xbox 360 is the best game system (for online gaming) I would highly recommend the Nintendo Wii since your kids are interested in the type of games you listed, and i believe their choices go first, although if you plan on playing more rainbow games and halo are all on xbox 360. i personally own it and think that there cannot possibly be a greater system for gaming.
thnx

get a ps3. you can go online with the web browser. it has basically all the features of a 360 and more. its cheaper. and im sure you will love the games like killzone, haze and uncharted. you daughters will probably like the games like littlebigplanet and such. try looking for a 60 gb ps3 if you do decide to buy one because it is the best out of all of the ps3's.
