We do the "Santa is coming soon" thing, but concentrate on the "reason", Jesus Christ. Santa is merely for fun. When they are old enough to ask if there really IS a Santa Claus...(My 10 yr old just asked the other day), then we explain the Story behind him, etc. There is NOTHING wrong with fantasy. I don't feel as if I was lied to..LOL...I actually have friends that tell me they refuse to "LIE TO THEIR CHILDREN".....Heaven forbid their kid has a fantasy...ridiculous.

I don't have children yet, but when I do yes, I will let them believe in Santa. Why not? At a certain age, they will either figure it out themselves, or I'll tell them the truth. I think most kids find out on their own from other children, or because they catch their parents putting out the presents. It's not a bad thing, no one is getting hurt with this little fib. In fact it's a good thing. It gives children a lot of hope and excitement. It is also hard when children are young to exclude them from something that many many other children are a part of. I will let my kids believe in Santa, but I will also tell them the true meaning of Christmas. That is how it was in my house. We knew the true meaning of Christmas and we knew why we celebrated Christmas, but "Santa" also brought us gifts. And that is how it will be in my home when I have children.

Well I think you should tell your children there is a santa until they are old enough to figure it out for themselves!

This depends on your moral convictions. If you are a Christian than your religion teaches that lying is a sin. Just like anything else in life you can use rationalization to get around this. A lot of people say that telling your kids that there is no Santa is cruel and discourages imagination. They believe that this is some sort of Biblical loophole. That is of course just rationalization because neither of those statements are in fact true and there are no loopholes. If however you are not of a religion that teaches against lying than I say go for it if thats what you want to do.

When my kids were little, I told them there was a Santa Claus. Once they got older and started asking questions, I told them the truth. (Now, if people would only do that with God. But I digress...)
