It'd cost me anywhere between 5 and 8 grand to put a K20Z3 under my 04 Civic Sedan LX's hood. That's not even including turbo, turbo would run me another 5 grand... so anywhere between 10-13 grand.

Or should I go with a different car? KBB value of my current car is ~10 grand. So would it be better to get a different car for ~20-23 grand?

If it was me I would buy a nice car for 20k instead of upgrading a older car.

I just found an Acura K20Z3 engine on ebay w / 20,000 miles for 4 grand.
I don't know about you but for that much unrecoverable money at trade in time I'd ride what you have until you find exactly what you want with a full warranty.
Turbo's are tricky on gas motors. What if the previous owner had not fed the base engine (K20Z3) the highest octane gas available. I think the compression ratio is 11-1 on that motor with a throttle body and fuel injection. I'm quite sure that's too much compression for any turbocharged gas motor.

Honestly for that amount of money you can go buy a 2004-2006 Subaru STI or a Mistubishi Lancer EVO. They not only have factory turbo's, but give the added benefit of AWD.

I'd say take that amount of money and buy a Honda S2000.
