Medications can cause a dry mouth. Drinking too much alcohol ( this can lead to dehydration). Not drinking enough water or clear liquids ( ginger ale), too much salt in your diet. If you are a mouth breather while sleeping, can cause a dry mouth and sometimes, even a minor sore throat. If you are a smoker this can lead to dry mouth. For some people, if they are nervous about something, this can do this as well. Is this a chronic problem ?? Chewing sugarless gum, mints or, sugarless hard candies can help. And, of course, be sure to drink plenty of fluids. I hope that this helps.

Medications also cause dry mouth. If you started on a new medication either for depression or allergies this could cause dry mouth. If your not on any medications speak with a doctor it could be a symptom of something else. Either way increase your fluids, brush your teeth more often because dry mouth can hurt your teeth. Sugarless gum and mints help too.
