The stereotype is that their voices change and sound demonic. In fact, I saw a special on TV that showed, technically, how people can change their voices. Something to do with the little voice box in our throats and how they're open or not...
Anyways, if you're a very suspicious believer then I think praying to God will help. My old high school teacher told me that he had a visitor that was posessed and he made a prayer and the demon jumped from room to room until the posessed person finally jumped out of the window. My teacher then supposedly "jumped" on top of the posessed person but it knocked him down. He then made a final prayer with his other visitor who was following along and the demon was forced out.
Good luck.
Edit: I am a non-believer and I think that stressful life situations can make someone rather unhappy. I think that you should probably just talk to him/her and see if there is anything wrong in their life that may have made them start acting differently.

Hello Kandon
Possession is a fallacy.
It is within the mind that such thoughts arise. People who normally state that they are possessed suffer from serious mental conditions such as personality disorders & schitzophrenia.
Some people with religious beleifs claim that they are - but it always the self that is producing any symptons & is a lack of reality.

scientifically speaking. No one can be possessed. (religiously, its possible, but that's not credible)
"Trances" are simply the mind slipping out of focus. Might be caused by lack of sleep or an emerging disorder.
If its inhibiting her life to a harmful point go see a doctor and a therapist.
If you notice behavioral changes, I SERIOUSLY advise going to a physician and a psychologist. Behavioral changes are signs of servere mental disorders like DID, Schizophenia, etc. (I'm not implying that the person has these. these are merely examples.)
See a therapist/psychiatrist/psychologist ... ANYONE that can diagnose the problem.
Should all the medical community fail ........................................... find an exorcist.

There is no such thing as 'possession'.
However, they certainly can have abnormal brain chemistry which can lead to fits of anger, depression, and poor life choices. Most of these issues can be treated.

try posting this in R&S.. not that people can't be religious and learned in psychology.. but you would be more likely to have someone tell you they are schizophrenic from this board... and obviously that is not the answer you are looking for.
