Some people are still as stupid as back in the 1750s, when Voltaire wrote "Candide". This is a hilarious story of satire and allegory, which discredits the philosophical doctrine of Leibnizian Optimism. This philosphy of optimism essentially said that everything happens for a reason, and that everything will be fine in the end. It was preposterous.

The protagonist hears about a ship which sank, killing everyone on board: men, women, and children. Candide feels sorry for all the people who died, and says the event must prove that God is not protecting everyone as the church would have them believe. The wide-eyed proponent of discredit the philosophical doctrine of Leibnizian Optimism demurs, saying God was punishing the wicked.

Candide says, "Well, what about the good people on the ship?". The response: "The devil killed them".

So, as you see, not much has changed in 250 years. Religious fanatics are still as addle-brained as ever.

It eases their minds. You know, you have an interesting point. I will have to ask my pastor that question. If the Bible tells us that God is in control of all things, are things like this His will?

That's false. No one who believes in "God's will" thinks that. Maybe those that believe in "Muhammad's will" do.
