Did you recently install or update your IE explorer? Also which version are you using? I would try two things and recommend another.. IE explorer is just a web browser which you can open from any address link in any window.

1. Open up My Computer
2. On the top where it says "my computer" go ahead and delete that and type http://www.microsoft.com
3. If you can get this far, download the new version of IE explorer and that should fix the problem.

If you cant get that far you might need to restore your computer to an earlier date which is not hard. Follow these steps:
1. Go to start and click on run
2. Type restore
3. Go through the steps and choose a date before IE explorer started acting goofy. Try that out and let me know how it works! One thing I will recommend is not to use Internet explorer anymore and make the switch to www.firefox.com . Its easy and similar to use but does not freeze up and crash on you like IE explorer..I made the switch a year ago and will never use IE explorer again. Good Luck!

Whenever I've seen this.. it's been spyware choking the system. Even if you upgraded to IE7, it may have been on your system BEFOREHAND.

In either case.. try this:
1) Start | Control Panel | Internet Options
Click on Delete, then Delet Files, then OK
Click on Settings next to the delete button, change the size of the IE cache to something more reasonable like 20

Check to see if IE is still locking up.

2) Click on Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools
Click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons)
See if it works - if it does, then it's likely that a spyware application has added one or more Browser Help Objects to your browser and you need to proceed to step3, to remove them.

3) Download and Install Spybot Search n Destroy,(you may have to download it from another computer and put it on a flash drive or use Firefox to get it. ) Download from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html and beware of other sites that may show up in Google with slightly different names. Safer Networking is the main developer of the software.
Update it and then scan your system.
Tell Spybot to remove whatever it finds by clicking on "fix problems"

Reboot your computer.

Test again

If ALL this fails... either take the PC to a Repair shop and be ready to pay about $150 to repair OR just start using Firefox

DO NOT install multiple applications that promise to repair your PC, 95% of them are junk, about 70% of them will actually harm your PC.

With IE 7 freezing is very common. Either downgrade or switch to another browser, Firefox maybe.

If your IE is that bad, try to go on another computer, go to getfirefox.com, and download that. Put the installer on a flash drive or disc, transfer it to the computer, and get that...
Reinstalling windows will fix the problem, and scan your computer for viruses. You can use AVG to scan for viruses, and windows defender for spyware.

Well switch to firefox. Free.
If you're using 7, remove it via add/remove programs.
If 6, switch to firefox.
