I can't say I know him all too well, but he seems to be an okay chap, within his own limits.

He is like most of us, looking for the truth in his own way. That he received scorn for choosing a way that ran across the grain of the common man was not only not a displeasure to him, but a source of pride. And in this sense he fell into the same trap as the Marquis de Sade: in trying for liberty, he freed himself from the trap of obedience only to fall into the trap of rebellion.

He was, in the end, a man. Not perfect, even to himself. I can sympathize with that though I'm unsurprised how few see past the superficialities to do the same.

Crowley was a coked/smoked out rich boy with a knack for weaving a web of bull around him in order to ensnare a bunch of dumbfounded dipsh-ts into thinking he had special powers.

if i had nothing to do but travel and read occult books, then shove a gram of coke in each nostril for a marathon writing session, i'd have alot of kooky ideas as well - too bad none of them were his own.

if you still want to see what englishmen do with with magick, check out Austin Osman Spare - basically a horny old man what lives in a basement full of cats, renown for his art (of course AFTER his death), and actually makes sense when he attempts to relay his methods in writing, rather than hiding and encoding them in alphanumeric gobbledygook.

he fell into company with crowley for a while, but they soon parted ways, and yeah good for him.
