It's lunch time and I'm starving. And the salad that I have in the fridge is sensible, but not my first choice, as usual...

So could you make a meal using any or all of these: a band's name, or a song or album name?

For example, the first thing that popped into my head when thinking about this question was Jimmie's Chicken Shack.

Actually, if R & P were a diner, it would serve the same boring meals everyday, and the customers would all have the same complaints:

Whatever happened to red meat? / Is red meat dead?

The tuna melt doesn't suck, do you agree?
What's your all time favorite side item?

NP: "Pressure" - Brother Cane

*** Prof., there was a band that we used to do shows with n my college days called the Kiwi Babies. They used to pass bottles of Kiwi Maddog around during their sets. We jammed together during one big super party, and their singer and I got into a chugging contest. That was the only time I never finished a set.

Maybe you could name the place the Steak and Sabre (Frank Black and the Catholics)

Rock Lobster
Wild Honey Pie
Savoy Truffle
a fried plate of "Pads, Paws and Claws" (Elvis Costello)

for something to drink - Kiwi Maddog 20/20 (Elliott Smith)

a bit more of a stretch
"War Pigs" in a blanket
"Funny Little Frog" legs - Belle and Sebastian

****************
That's awesome JMike. I tried to do the St. Ides stuff for a while (another Elliott Smith inspired move. I'm pathetic, but not ashamed. In fact Elliott Smith had a lot to do with choosing my poison in my early 20s drinking career St. Ides, Christian Brothers, Johnny Walker Red (a la Miss Misery, became a real favorite)), but the malt liquor is just too sweet and I innevitably ended up with a stomache ache after a night of heavy lifting. I never had the Kiwi though. Sounds like a painful morning after. I had a similar experience playing a show and drinking many of those pre mixed club margaritas when I was 19 or 20. We got through the set, but it wasn't pretty... Oh wait, we actually didn't. The guitarist was being a jerk and wouldn't stop playing the Joker (knowing that I hated the song and didn't know the words to it) so I got all mad and stormed off. Silly stuff.

I rarely get my eggs scrambled at any restaurant, because the ones I make at home are always better. I find the ones at diners and restaurants to usually be overcooked and bland, unless it is an omelet with a lot of ingredients. When I scramble my eggs, I use room temp eggs, a little bit of cream or milk, some salt and pepper. I then pour them into a skillet with real butter, and as soon as they hit the pan, I sprinkle on a little bit of shredded cheese, and then continue to move them around with a spatula until they just lose their shine. They are still soft when I put them on my plate.

Hungry? For starters you could try Breakfast at Tiffany's (Neil and Tim Finn). Their Raspberry Beret (Prince) Sorbet. If you want spirits with that, try a little Michael Bublé or some Strawberry Wine (Deana Carter) or Summer Wine (Corrs with Bono)! Also, whenever I Want Candy (Aaron Carter), a Lollypop (Doris Day) or Turkish Delight (David Crowder Band) that's where I go!

For a light lunch, you could hit the local Coffee Shop (Kottonmouth Kings). For a real Sugar Rush (Dream Street). try a Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young) bun or any other Sweet Thang (Chaka Khan) and One More Cup of Coffee (Bob Dylan) with A Spoonful of Sugar (Julie Andrews). Make that Brown Sugar (Rolling Stones). If you spill that coffee and get a Coffee Stain (Sarah Harmer), you can clean it with spray, just make sure you don't get 409 in Your Coffeemaker (Green Day)!

Dinner time, for a little more Coffee and Conversation (Joni Mitchell), you can't beat Tom's Diner (Suzanne Vega). You also can't beat the Meatloaf or their Dixie Chicken (Little Feat) with Cranberries and an ice cold Corrs. For dessert, I recommend their Cherry Pie (Warrant), then a Second Cup of Coffee (Gordon Lightfoot) with a slice of American Pie (Don McLean) topped with Caramel (Suzanne Vega) sauce.

On the other hand, if you feel like Thai, One Night in Bangkok (Men at Work) might be the ticket. They may not have Sukiyaki (Utada Hikaru) but their Rice Pudding (Jeff Beck Group) is to die for!

Need a nightcap? Finish up a night on the town with a Tequila Sunrise (Eagles) or few Gin Blossoms at the Whiskey Bar (Doors) in Whiskeytown (Emmylou Harris).

Bon Appetit!!!

Chicken sounds real good but I'll pass on the Salmanilla Envelope. :)

The Sea and Cake
Fishbone
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Mudhoney - it might taste pretty good, who knows?
Primus - These guys would give us one disgusting meal. Between Pork Soda and Seas of Cheese, I don't want to stay for dessert.
Prince - Raspberry Beret
The String Cheese Incident
Southern Culture on the Skid - Too Much Pork for Just One Fork
