I wish I had them after both my babies. I had caesarean deliveries and you bleed heavier because they can't massage your uterus. Nothing I used in the first week kept me from overflowing. Plus I hemorraged briefly with my second one and the nurses had to change the sheets about every 2 hours that day. I think the bleeding is about the worst part of having a baby.

RE:
Has anyone ever heard of this? Wearing Depends after giving birth instead of sanitary pads?
I read about this in 1 of my pregnancy groups but it was only mentioned once and i thought it was an interesting concept. So instead of wearing maxipads after giving birth, some women have just worn Depends undergarments ( like the ones used for older people's incontinence)
Has anyone else...

I have heard of it too but I didn't do it myself. At the hospital, they gave me something like Depends but it was more like a netted type underwear with a very large pad on the crotch area. You never know how much you are going to bleed after you give birth....so I don't think they are that bad of an idea.

To be honest with you I do....I have tried using the hospital pads and they just don't work like I would like them too....I had a problem with severe bleeding after the birth of my first child and depends were the only thing that made me "accident free" It's all a matter of personal opinion. I felt much better walking around with them. Although it does seem a little weird. I only needed them until the bleeding was normal. Try them out, if you aren't comfortable then just toss them out. I plan on using them this time around

My friend did this! She had her baby a few months before I had mine and suggested I do it while in hospital, because you feel more comfortable - not quite so scared of leaks. I don't really see how using an adult diaper is any different from a pad, except is covers more. I'd even say, you can put a thin pad inside the diaper to give you a little added protection.
I couldn't bring myself to do it though - the thought of changing my own diaper? I don't know about that one... :) but if you don't care, go for it I say! Whatever makes you more comfortable.

dont look at it as a diaper. the pads you get at the hospital may as well be called diapers too b.c. they're soooo BIG. Depends are so much more comfortable, and no worries about leaks. after birth, it's like having a period X 100, so Depends are perfect.

After the birth of my first child (1997), they had these....um....fish-net undies (kind of looked like shorts) that held a huge pad. They were awesome - especially with the amount of bleeding. There would be no difference in that and a depend, except I would think the depends would be more comfortable.
Thankfully, I left the hospital with #2 and #3 wearing a mini-pad!

I haven't but have considered it for this go around. The hospital usually gives one pack of large sanitary napkins to post partum mothers. If you've given birth before, you know you are going to bleed like crazy.
