Well, it depends on the medication. Many medications are not available in generic form. So, yes, you can request the generic but, discuss this with the Pharmacist. Also, many insurance companies, will not cover the cost of a trade brand if it is available in generic. I hope that this helped.

Normally when the doctor signs your prescription there is a place at the bottom of the slip that says generics will be acceptable. If that is not on your then the pharmacist can call your doctor and get an okay for the generic brand. I have done that several times.

It depends on how the prescription is written. There's usually a box that says "do not substitute with generic" on the bottom. If it's checked, then there's nothing you can do other than to get your doctor to re-write the prescription. A GOOD pharmacist will automatically substitute the generic no matter what is written on the prescription. You shouldn't have to ask.

Zithromax is a popular anti-bacterial drug developed by Pfizer, the highly-popular pharmaceutical company known for making Viagra and a wealth of other products. Pfizer is a well-established company that received an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
As mentioned above, Zithromax is a powerful anti-bacterial drug that is most commonly prescribed for conditions such as pneumonia, sinusitis, chlamydia, and ear infections. The full name for the drug is azithromycin, and it can be quite effective against harmful bacteria in the skin. Recently Zithromax has been adapted for use against adult acne, and while it is effective against all forms of acne, it is generally reserved for the more severe types. Zithromax is most commonly distributed in "Z-Paks", which come with six 250mg tablets. One can also obtain 500mg tablets. There are different dosage patterns for different people that are determined by the prescribing physician.

I believe, if the doctor wants you to get brand name drug, he/she will mark the box on the bottom of the prescription that says something like 'fill as prescribed'. Otherwise, pharmacy will give you generic.

In Illinois, as long as the doctor did not check the do not subsitute box, you can get the generic. Illinois law assumes you want a generic if one is available.
