I totally agree with you! It's ridiculous to have expectant mother parking! Walking is very good for pregnant women. I always park in the expectant mother parking section. I also don't think people should have to give up their seats on the bus for pregnant women. They chose to get knocked up and standing is a part of life!

lol..no pregnant women aren't handicapped. I take it you've never been pregnant? I never even noticed the spots until I was pregnant. I thought they were a great idea. I loved it. When you're 8 months huge, ankles swollen, and you practically need a backhoe to get you out of the car, you're thankful the walk into the store is not a mile away. I was tired all the time and after just a short trip to the grocery store I needed a nap. I like the parking spots and now that i'm preggers free, I really don't mind walking the distance those few spots took up.

first of all , i never been pregnant so i full don't understand why a woman needs a parking space.. a family parking space is good and makes more sense.. I have seen pregnant women do the same things I can do, if not better.. furthermore why is a 9mos/due at any moment women doing at the mall alone? shouldn't they be at home or with someone who can drop then off on the curb,go park the car and vice-versa? How about the elderly who do not have a handicap tag? They are the ones whom need the parking.

Expectant Mother parking was the brainchild of some marketing types who want to cater to that group. I have no issues with it. I did want to point out to you, however, that for some women, pregnancy is a disability. Wasn't for me AT ALL, but I've seen women who are having problems late in pregnancy as well as women who are normally on bedrest, but have nobody to grocery shop for them. I don't know about your state, but women in this situation can actually get a temporary handicapped placard that ends the month following her due date. Since then, I noticed that nearly all the Expectant Mother signs have disappeared in my area (MN).

I am gonna take a very good guess and say that you have never been nine months pregnant before....
The expectant mother parking is more meant for the extremely later term women who are getting ready to pop. While yes, it is good for both the mom and baby to do some walking, in the winter it might not be so good for a pregnant woman to park far away due to ice and whatnot and increasing her chances to fall. (being pregnant hinders your ability to balance as well normally.) Also, being in your 9th month or even overdue, walking can cause other issues such as shortness of breath (baby is taking up all room and not as much area for your lungs to expand) and cramping and other things as well.
They also have parking up front for senior citizens.....so do you park in those stalls as well?

I am not sure who's idea it was, but I was very thankful for it when I was at the end of my pregnancy and walking from the house to the car seemed like a never-ending chore...lol... Maybe we have become whimps and lazier than our ancestors, but hey I am sure there are things that are available to us now that were not back then that you may use that are not TOTALLY necessary.

I have one daughter, and I agree with you. Most pregnant women do not need special parking, and those with medical issues should be able to apply for a handicapped permit.
I do like the signs for mothers with small children -- it can be a real hassle to push a stroller through deep snow to the store entrance. I can also imagine if you had 2 or more children that are small, it could be difficult.

I agree about the exercise, I do have to say it may be beneifical in the winter if it is icey. I know when I was pregnant I slipped on ice and it was harder for me to catch myself because I couldn't bend at my stomach so I fell hard. But for the curtesy of others wouldn't you just want to park where you should? Theres usually only 2 or 3 spots for expectant mothers anyways! Plus its not an easy job being pregnant for 9 months, its the least that can be done for pregnant women.

I see your point about people becoming more relaxed and dependent but I like the idea that if a woman feels the need to park closer then there is a spot available.
