Ronald Regan was actually one of the worst presidents that we have ever had. (we have had worst ones)
some known Factors are:
1. He didn't know what was going half the time when there were important issues at stake.
2. He feel a sleep at all most every single meeting.
3. He didn't pay attendation when the white house commindity was talking about war, healthcare, and other many important issues. Instead of paying attendation he was drawing on paper napkins.
4. He was guided by astrologitors. Nancy hired astrologitors to give advice to her husband.
5. Did not pay attendation to what the poor people were going through and spent money fruitlessly.
These are Know facts. I did not make them up.
I am sorry for any misspelling.
Please I am just interested in other's opinions here.

Regan didn't do anything on his own. He had other people who wrote him a script which told him what to say and so forth.
Regan had sever lack of common sense.
Regan lowered the Taxes for the Rich and That is part of the reason why the national Dept is where is today. Well a lot worse now because of the War.
Regan didn't bring down the wall. Russia was losing power and Both sides of Germany need each other. He just happened to president at the time.
Regan also claimed to be in WWII. Which he was never was in He was an actor in a movie about the war.
Regan and Nancy preached Family Values when they had none.
Regan got Nancy (who was also an actress) and another actress pregnant at the same time and just picked Nancy. He was able to get out paying child support because the laws were not what they were today. He never did pay child support for that other child.

My opinion is not a factor on wither someone wants to answer question. I am just state facts. I am not going to judge wither or not a person's question is right or wrong. I may not like it but that is the beauty of being where you speak your mind.
From what I have written anyone is welcome to commit on it or not. I am not asking your to agree with what I have written even though it is the truth. Just voice your opinon as long as there is no name calling or just being plain rude about the whole typic wither you agree or disagree.

I don't think he was a great president at all. I think he was one of the worst ever. I was married just before he became president, and I remember the worst poverty ever in the early eighties. He was not a kind man to the majority of American people. And the main thing that stands out to me more than anything else in his presidency is the aspartame shenanigan. It was never approved by the FDA until he became president, and his friends made bucos bucks from the nasty stuff.

Just remember a couple of things. All Presidents get the applause and the boo's for anything that happens on their watch. There are several presidents who really weren't that good but people consider them to be great. Sometimes a tragedy makes them a legend.
But why he is considered great
1. The end of the cold war. Most significant was the falling of the Berlin wall.
2. Economics were booming and everyone made money. Our dollar was strong.
Also remember the first 6months to a year still has legislature and roll over from the previous administration. So when things change in the first year most of the ground work from the previous guy
But every President doesnt do anything on thier own. This is true for positive things and negative things. Remember Laws are also done with Congress and the Senate. Also every President has thier cabinent. But that this why they call it his Administation

To answer the original question -- either "everyone" is completely ignorant of the things you mention. Or you have been misled, and many (or most or all) of the "facts" you cite simply are not so.
A word of advice -- don't list all these "known facts" and simply assert that they are "known" without providing any source or evidence that they are true.
As you can see from several of the answers, there are many intelligent people who dispute that ANY of what you say ever happened. And if you are not going to provide the specific evidence, you have not given us any reason to accept your statements.
Actually, many of us have read Reagan's own writings, and the writings of a variety of people who knew him. Those who worked with him generally claim he was VERY engaged and informed. Those who have read such things as his detailed notes for the numerous radio talks he gave in the years before his Presidency -- notes in his own hand, not given to him by anyone else-- recognize that he gave years of study and thought to developing his core ideas and arguments.
The fact that he, like every modern President, employed speech writers proves nothing (esp. when his speech writers have themselves written accounts of their efforts and how he edited and improved on them).
Taxes -- yes, they were cut on the rich, but not just on the rich... and did you happen to know how ridiculously high the marginal tax rates were when he took office? (That helps explain why bollweevil Democrats joined in cutting the taxes... do remember, the House had to vote for these things, and it was under Democratic control at the time.)
The fall of the Soviet Union and liberation of Eastern Europe. A LOT of key people paid a role in this, including Gorbachev, Pope John Paul II, Solidarity (the Polish union under Lech Walesa), Thatcher and Reagan. It didn't all "just happen". Reagan, for his part, pressured the Soviets economically and militarily (including placing Pershing missiles in Europe). They were terrified of the Strategic Defense Initiative and their total inability to keep up (as they later TOLD us). It's absurd to suggest he didn't contribute to the USSR's fall.
A couple of other points.
a) You are confused about the astrologist bit. It was Nancy, NOT her husband, who consulted astrologists. I don't agree with her decision, but if you check the history you'll find this all happened right after the nearly successful assassination attempt (early 1981), so her fears are somewhat understandable.
b) The bit about getting another woman pregnant is a smear, not "a known fact"
Sorry, I lived through this, observed it closely, and have read a lot about it since. My opinion is you need to check out and probably pitch out your "sources".

Reagan was known as the "Great Communicator." He was an actor so he was able to convince people that he was a great guy who really cared. This is a skill, that in my opinion, our current president completely lacks.
I think people focus on that and ignore the fact, that Reagan was an old man by the time he was in office and slept through a lot of both terms. People remember "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." and forget the recession, bloated defense contracts, and the whole Iran Contra affair.
That's my guess anyway. I've been wondering why Reagan has become a big hero for years.

you might have self belief something you like, however the experts could variety on Reagan being suitable (or perhaps intense on the record). He became general yet today experts are conscious that he became many times to blame for the mess of today. popularity does not particularly matter form for lots ... only look at how Bush became enjoyed by using many (yet he's one in each and all the worst cutting-area Presidents) or Obama is hated by using maximum of (yet is ranked greater than Reagan). countless "expert" surveys variety, yet Reagan does not rank greater than eighth... yet as low as twenty 6th ... widespread he's seen around twentieth suitable (slightly interior the right 50%). stable success with arguing your thesis.

He is considered 'great' because of the direction he took the US down. The US politically still suffered from Vietnam around the world. Many countries considered the US weak, there-by taking advantage of a conceived weakness (something we must consider for Iraq). Carter didn't deal with this at all allowing the perception to lead to the Iran hostage affair.
Regan rebuilt the image of the country and after his term the nation appeared stronger than when he entered. For that reason I believe he is a better president than others.

Well Lisa, I am sorry but I will not give you a pass for your dozen or so grammatical and spelling errors. If you are calling out someone for his supposed stupidity, you should be a bit more careful. And Y!Answers has a Check Spelling area you can click on. Shame on you for not using it.
Now that you may not read this because what I have written above, I will attempt to show where you are incorrect.
First, please at least spell the President's name correctly. He served 8 years. It is Reagan.
Next, he did know what was going on. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1994. He had suffered a head injury when thrown from a horse in 1989, which was after he left the White House. His Doctors believe the horse incident brought on the disease. So he did not have it in the White House.
Did he fall asleep at meeting occasionally? Yes. At almost all of them? No. Not one person who was in those meetings ever accused him of falling asleep at most. By the way, did Presidents Bush, Clinton and Bush nod off at meetings? Yes.
I can't answer your number three as I have no idea what a commindity is. I know what is, is. But not commindity.
You wrote Nancy hired astrologers. That is Nancy, not Ron. They are not the same person.
He did pay attention to the poor. He wanted the economy to become strong so there would be more jobs. There were 18,000,000 more people working at the end of his Presidency than at the beginning. Helping create jobs is better than giving the poor more of my tax dollars.
Up until he was Governor, President Reagan wrote his own speeches. After he got into politics, he hired people to help him, as almost all politicians do. But he always read over the speeches and made additions and deletions. He was active in the creation of his message.
You say he had a sever (severe?) lack of common sense. I see no proof. And I disagree with you. You are making the accusation, therefore the burden of proof is yours. Let us see it.
He lowered taxes for all taxpayers, not just the rich. You say that is the reason for the national dept (debt?). Wrong again. Revenues more than doubled in the 80's. Why did the national debt go up? Because he couldn't stop the Congress from spending all of that money and more. Learn about baseline budgeting. Basically it rewards government agencies for spending all of their money so the next year they can get more.
Another thing about poverty, most of the problems were drummed up by the press. Did we hear about the homeless during the Carter Administration, when the unemployment rate was the worst since the depression? No. We heard all about it during Reagan/Bush. Did we hear all about it during the Clinton Administration? No. We started to hear about it again during the current administration. Look at the numbers and you will see that the press was in the back pocket of the Dems on this issue. It is an election issue that the press misleads people about. Again, look at the numbers yourself and do your own thinking.
Reagan never took credit for bringing down the wall. He merely told Gorbachev to do it if he wanted real peace. He was instrumental in breaking up the USSR. Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II both gave him credit for that (those are facts).
The reason Russia was losing power was Reagan did a lot behind the scenes to aid the people who were yearning for freedom. And he refused to give in to the USSR in negotiations and by doing so, he helped wreck their economy. He brought them down without firing a shot. Isn't that better than war?
Let me see the quote where he said he was in World War II. You won't be able to find it as he never said it. He said he was in the service, and that is true, but his eyesight prevented him from going overseas. That is a fact.
Again, let's see your fact? that he got two women pregnant so he married one of them. And since when has any President been perfect? Never. You just try and hope you succeed.
Finally, I will go back to the Alzheimer's that his political enemies say he had in the White House. Some people saw he was not as sharp in 1987 as he had been. He was depressed because of the fallout over the Iran-Contra Scandal. A couple of his advisors told him he had almost two years to go and there were things left to be accomplished. That brought him ought of his depression. Howard Baker and others say he was engaged and upbeat for the rest of his Presidency.
You say you have these facts, but you show no proof. And I know for a fact that some of your "facts" are not true. So, do you have the courage to learn the truth? You are going to need to read other than left-wing blogs to get your "facts".
Sorry for the length, but your question was long and there was lots of misinformation there.

I don't know where you got your sources from, but alot of what you are saying is not true. He helped bring peace between the Soviets and the US, stoped the cold war, and to be a very good communicator in the time of need. He was by no means perfect but helped define an era with integrity and character.
