I understand that “glue-on” nails can be harmful to the natural nail, especially if used on a regular basis. However, I have a banquet at my youth group this Sunday and my natural nails are really short and no matter what they look dirty. I cannot afford acrylic nails, nor do I have the time right now. Would it be alright if I get a cheap pair of glue on nails from Wal-mart or something and use them for about a week or two just for this occasion (and then some time afterwards so I get my money’s worth out of them)? I won’t be using the nails on a regular basis so I don’t think it will be too harmful to use them for this one special occasion.

Thanks for any advice.

Well being a nail tech i can probably answer this question the best. The problem with the glue on nails are that the glue is very strong and not good for people with sensitive nail beds. It irritates the nail beds causing itching, burning, or even redness. If you have used them before with none of those side affects, then you are fine. The second problem with them is when people go to take them off they think that they are not real fake ones so they rip them off. Think about it you just super glued something to your nail and you are going to rip it off. No that is not good at all, when you do that you rip of some of the top layers on your nail hence why the surface of the nail is rough. Instead let them fall or or soak off with acetone. The second option is press on which will last for that day only, they use a weak adhesive strip that adheres the the oils in your nails, but if you plan on more than just sitting there and eating my guess is that one will probably fall off during the coarse of the night. Whatever you do DO NOT!! get a do it yourself home acrylic kit or gel kit. I took me 8 months to learn and perfect the techniques of fake nails. They will come out lumpy, big, and rough. I can't tell you how many times I've had to fix damage from people that try to do it themselves. Good Luck!

Glue on nails should be fine for this occasion. They do not harm the nails as much as the acrylic nails and this way you can take them off when you are done. Make sure you soak them and don't just rip them off after you are done. If you want your nails to be longer and stronger, I would advise you to look into some Sally Hansen products. There are several that helps your nails grow faster and stronger. I hope this helps. :o)

Acrylic nails are worse than press on nails. I got acrylic nails twice in life and it took my nails a long time to look normal again. Press on nails don't last very long though before they start popping off. So if you're going to use them for a special occassion, I would suggest putting them on right before the occassion to ensure that they will stay on and you won't be embarrassed if you lose one. And after you pop all the nails off, you can use a nail buffer to buff off the dry glue. No harm done. Good luck.

Well Sweety, In the beauty industry we call those pop-offs. we wouldnt apply it to the entire nail bed, though. The way that you may apply them, Be careful they may not last as long as you thing. The glue will not harm the nail plate.
