I have to say that statement is not always true.
If your country is being attacked, you have the right to defend it. Going to war for self defense is never wrong.

I think it would be more accurate to say...
""It can never be right to start a war"
You have no choice but to defend if you are attacked. So you cannot fault someone for self-defense...
I also never understood why americans feel the american revolution was a "good" war; Canada and Australia have the same rights as the USA, and neither of those nations (colonies) went to war for their independence...
Edit: Sally: You make the assumption that everyone believes in the same God. It would not matter whether you argue from a religious point of view or not, people would disagree on what is right or wrong...

Some wars that are fought are wrong, but many are not. When we decided to fight in the World War 2 it was the right thing to do. I have to say that even the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have been the right thing to do even if we could have approached the Iraq situation with a little more diplomacy it was still the right thing to do.

Well, are you going to take a religious point of view about it? I did this too in class. If you are, you can fight for God, for what is deemed right in His eyes for His people. If you are not going to take a religious point of view, it will be a bit tougher since you will need some sort of foundation to lay belief in. Say your not religious and havn't given much thought on God, a person can have different views on this. One may have had bad experiences on something/or a group and see fit in a war being necessary for there to be peace. Another may be a racist and think it really is okay to take lives they deem not worthy for what ever the cause. Is that right? To the person it is. For another person who is religious, probably not. Everyone can have a different view on what is right and not because we have been through different paths. Even if they are alike. We will choose what we think is right based on what we were taught, and beilieve. Remember, when you get down to it, people can never play God, we are people who make mistakes and may never know the right answer. Only He knows. We can ask for guidence in doing what is right to Him. Hope this helps and that u do well. :)

It was both right and necessary to fight a war against Adolf Hitler. He and his Nazi party were set on world domination. No one today would be free if he hadn't been stopped.
Just think of the world being under the control of one man who would not allow people to even read anything that might have challenged his ideas.
Just have a good long think about it.

In my opinion, it is wrong. The word "never" in your quote is a problem. So, if our country is attacked (like Pearl Harbor or 9/11) then we cannot respond? This means we would have lost WWII and the Nazis would be running the world today. If we lose the current War on Terror then the radical Islamic fundamentalists would be running the world. Is this what your crazy liberal teachers want?
Obviously, your school and teachers have an agenda to push their dangerous left-wing propaganda.

It would never be right when dealing with a nation of reasonable people that would negotiate our differences.
It's called Diplomacy.
From past history, the wars we engaged in would have to be viewed from this position.
Would the history of Hitler and the WW ll fit into the diplomacy position?
How about Kuwait?
How about Iraq?

It all depons on what the war was for and why we went into it. There comes a time when you have to leave wether the job is done or not. WW2 was a time where we went in there did what we was suppost to and came home it was the last war like that that war only lasted 4 years now they have to last 4 or more.

It can be right to fight in a war. It doesn't mean abusing, torturing and massacring people is though. It is one thing to be a soldier in war and another to be a murderer. I think that war does happen for good reasons sometimes, like World War II, World War I and the American Revolution. I think the cause for war is the most important thing to be analyzed.

It's usually wrong to invade another country. But if another country declared war upon your country, you have no choice but to fight, but it's a good idea to keep it as short as possible because wars cost lives and money, and destroys property and the economy.
