What is World of Warcraft switching?

I'm getting World of Warcraft for christmas I had a look on youtube and found out about switching teams, does this mean you can only have alliance severs or only horde, E.G can't have a Tauren account and a human account. Can you or can't? If you can't I need to think which team to pick. and must all your accounts be on the same sever?

If you play PvP (Player vs Player) all your characters on that server must be of the same faction (Alliance or Horde). If you play PvE (Player vs Environment) you can have both Horde and Alliance characters on the same server. Also you can have characters on many different servers, and up to 10 characters on each server. Hope this helps

When your first starting World of Warcraft, you must pick a server to play on.
If you would like to have both Horde (tauren) and Alliance (human) characters on the same server, make sure you do NOT pick a PVP server. You must pick servers labeled as "NORMAL" to have both races.

I don't know what you were looking at on YouTube, but that's not true. You can have Horde and Alliance characters on the same server. You can have up to 50 characters, and since only 10 characters are permissible per server, you could have characters on other servers. (You could have 1 on 50 different servers if you wanted.)

Where did you hear about changes?

Blizzard is merging with Activision, but they're not changing anything.

"There will be no changes to our games, our websites, our personnel, or our day-to-day operations as a result of the deal."

On PVP servers you never could have horde and alliance characters.

It depends on the server.. If you are on a PvP server, you have to choose one side, but only for that one server. On PvE or RP servers, you can have both alliance and horde characters on the same server.
