It depends what version you use honestly... the 60's Charleton Question was the best detective of their universe before DC bought them out... DC turned him into a second rate Detective.

The Batman from the 30s-40s was a better detective than the modern one.

Both the Modern Question and Batman are not as good as they have been. But If you take them at their peak when they had writers that really emphasized their mental prowess they would be pretty closely matched Batman being the better Forensic Detective and the Question being the better investigative/deductive detective.

Neither the Question or the Batman of our modern comics is as good as they were when they written by someone who really knew how to write mysteries.

The Question has turned into a modern Shaman with a good set of Martial Arts skills, and The Batman had turned into a borderline sociopath also with a good set of Martial arts skills.

The Question that was on Justice League Unlimited was a Conspiracy nut... and Batman wasn't far behind him in the Crazy department.

Neither one could hold a candle to their past, they rely too much on Barbara Gordon (oracle) or Quasi-mystical connections and aren't written as detectives anymore.

There's no mysteries to the stories anymore.

I hate how on this site Batman beats everyone in a fight. This is not a fight and Batman is known as the World's greatest detective. The Question stories are based more on conspiracy theories. His stories are more drawn out. I think Batman wins, but The Question might have a small edge on connecting the dots on a case.

I'll throw down my hat in Batman's corner, they call him the world's greatest detective for a reason. Okay so a lot of times he knows who the villian is, but when you consider some of his more recent archs, like with the scarecrow, or looking at the older tales when the emphasis really was on the detective work, it's clear that he is pretty smart when it comes to working out what's going on.

Actually they are all lame as detectives, because their opponents and foes are no mystery - they know the names and information on their archenemies. Besides, their archenemies reveal themselves because for some reason they have gigantic egos.
Better detectives are the ones on CSI and Cold Case, although it's a little annoying that Cold Case is too much like Scooby Doo (as in, it's always the first person they interview!)
