The only requirement to use a monitor is that the connector on the end of the monitor's cable fit the video connector on the desktop. There are two different common connections. Most computers use a 15 pin VGA connector. Probably 90% of the montors in the world are 15 pin VGA.
There are some newer monitors and PCs that use a connector called a DVI. But these are only one monitors or PCs made in the last year (and not most of them).
If the connector is the wrong type, you can get an adpator for about $5-10 that will allow you to hook a VGA to a DVI computer, or vice versa.

Well to start with : NO.
It would depend on the graphics card you have (inbuilt into the motherboard or added) and the connectors (VGA/DVI) you have on the monitor.
There are two kinds of connectors for both. There is a white one called DVI which is morte advanced and can give you better resolution. And there is a Blue one which is called a VGA connector. The blue one is the most common one and is more than good enough for running any games/applications that require a good graphics card.
Hence first look at the video connector at the back of your tower and then look at the connector at the back of the monitor. If the colors match - it will work. If not then you may need to get a converter (easily available) that has Blue at one end and white on the other.
Cheers.

'Tower' is just a case. Case can be any brand. You computer in general does not have to be HP. It can be another brand or you can build one yourself.
Your monitor is most likely PnP - plug and play so it will work with any computer. After you have it up and running - go to HP website and check for the drivers for your monitor. If there are any - download and install them.

O fcourse it can be any other brand. I have a gateway computer and a gneric monitor and they work fine. Just amke sure the plug is the same. Nowadays you can buy an adaptor for the stuff but most of it is compatible.

It's not a matter of brand. Just make sure you have compatible connectors. Currently, they are making video cards with DVI, VGA, and HDMI. Just make sure both your tower and your monitor have at least one of these in common.

It can be any brand. Just make sure you have all the right cables and a corresponding socket on your graphics card.
The most common two interfaces are DVI and D-SUB. DVI is standard for all TFTs (flat-screen monitors) nowadays. Whilst D-SUB is generally used on older CRTs (the large ones).

Yes, as long as the video card on the tower outputs a resolution that the monitor can accept. And they support the same type of plug. VGA -vs DVI
