Better FOR WHAT? If you want to record music, get a Mac (Garage Band is not available for Windows, and programs that are available are way more expensive). If you want to do time series analysis, stick to Windows (eViews is not available for Mac).
For Web design, I'd say Windows is a better idea. You'll have to test your designs on what your users are going to be viewing them with, and the majority of Web users run Internet Explorer or Mozilla on Windows. Also, if you eventually want to expand into Web programming, Windows will give you more patform choices (you can run PHP on both Windows and MacOS X, but ASP will only run on Windows).

Get a Mac if you don't have time to troubleshoot Windows problems. Get a Mac if you spend a lot of time online and don't want to have to worry about viruses. Get a Mac if you want customer service that actually services the customer. Get a Mac if you want a no-nonsense system that just works.
Apple and Microsoft are two completely different companies. Apple sells hardware. Microsoft sells subpar shoddy software. Microsoft started with the goal to make a million dollars. Apple started with the goal of creating a work of art.
Completely disregard someone who makes the argument of "PCs have right click..." That's a stupid argument made by people who haven't been paying attention. The mouse that USED to come with a Mac only had one button, but you could use any mouse you wanted with them (the new Apple mouse (the mighty mouse) looks like it only has one button, but has sensors in it to determine if you're right or left clicking). The Macbooks and Macbook Pros only have one button, but does anyone really use the touchpod and mouse buttons on a laptop? You can get any USB or bluetooth mouse and it will work perfectly.
I switched to Apple computers 7 years ago and will never go back. Everything I could do on a PC I could do on my Mac, and I could do it better and faster and in far fewer steps. Even authoring web pages. Every application my wife has on her 1 year old PC runs better and faster on my 7 year old Mac. I can hardly ever get on my Mac because my wife is always on it because her practically brand new PC is such a dog. I say practically brand new because it's hardly been used.
The big difference between Macs and PCs are the operating systems that run them. Mac OSX is actually written to optimize your system resources and not be a bloated turd like Windows. This is how my 7 year old Mac is able to consistently outperform my wife's 1 year old PC (which was spec'ed out with all the fastest components that were available at the time). OSX is written on top of Unix which is the same system that runs all government and military servers, or the servers of any organization/corporation that has a lot of data that needs to stay online and secure 24/7.
Also, disregard anyone that says Macs are only good for media/publishing/etc. This used to be true because anyone with an iron clad deadline that cannot afford to be slowed down by PC problems didn't have time to mess with PCs. When money's on the line you want the best system available, and this has always been Macs. Apple is pretty much the driving force of the PC industry because they are always innovating and early adopting technology before anyone else. Windows based computers are always at least 5 years behind in the game.
Get a Mac, you're going to love having a hassle-free experience!

So, initially, it comes all the way down to cash. Macs are situated at the Intel Core product line (first iteration 65nm Intel processors). If you cross with a good Intel situated computer from say HP for $six hundred or extra, you'll be able to regularly get a Core two (new structure benefit over Core). If you love to play video games, continually persist with Windows. If you might have any specified Windows situated apps, persist with Windows. If you significance any Microsoft application (say Visual Studio, or SQL, or Office), persist with Windows. If you particularly do not know a lot approximately computer systems, a Mac perhaps for you. MS One Note is practically designed for institution pupils. It's beautiful first rate and runs exceptional on Windows.

It's a matter of taste, mostly. If you like Windows appearance and organization(Start menus, explorer, right mouse buttons) get Windows. You'll save some money for the same hardware. If you like the Mac OS, go for it. They run the same hardware now, and spec for spec Macs cost more for hardware. You can still install Windows on the Mac if you decide you want that compatibility.

Web designing? You'll want to get a microsoft because I've found its easier to program on one in HTML. Macs are good for media editing and publishing, but they're rather restricted to that.
