ok...basically i need to write an essay and I would like some ideas..."The experience of war brings to light not only the power of language, but also its power to distort or conceal the truth" Discuss with reference to ww1.

So basically what examples cud u give for me to write about power of language?

Then in what way language distorted or concealed the truth?

And the word is to discuss, so how cud I plan my essay...what shud i write for one side and for another? plz write bk thnx

Your keyword here is "propaganda". Google or resort to Wikipedia for a definition and description. :)

Language can "mask" the truth, you can be ironic, you can be evasive, you can just leave things out, lie.... etc. - many ways to do so with what you say. What you write is up to what you come up with after knowing what "propaganda" is. Then, google with search terms "propaganda WW1" to find many, many examples.

There are many articles written about WW1 but I personally hesitate to use the links because who really knows if even theses are true. The best thing is to read what you know to be true and determine if there was anything concealed or distorted. Good use is the Library of congress speeches.
