My daughter will be 8 weeks old this week and she has been doing this cat napping thing for the last week. She NEVER sleeps longer than 20 minutes at a time. I have been adding it up on a chart I made and she is averaging ONLY 6-7 hours of sleep within a 24 hour period and of course ranging between 5-20 min at a time. My husband and I are so exhausted we cannot see straight! lol Just wondering if anyone has ever had this experience?

If she's awake and happy it's likely just a phase. Won't last much more than another week or so and then it will change all over again. Just make sure her daytime catnaps are in brightly noisy areas and at night you place her someplace quiet and dark to sleep. If she is sleeping in your room you may want to move her to her own room, your night time noises may be preventing her from sleeping soundly, especially if the catnapping is because she is just a light sleeper. You can also try a fan running and the white noise might help her sleep as well.

My guy went through a no sleeping phase around that time, it was like he didn't want to miss a thing that went on, he was so curious and alert. Between having him sleep in his own room and keeping him really active and stimulated when awake his sleeping pattern has evolved into something quite manageable now at 4 months. He usually has one cat nap in the morning, a long sleep after lunch, a couple more cat naps in the afternoon and early evening and then in bed for the night around 8pm (wakes 2x to eat) and up again around 7/8am.

Hang in there!

It happens and it will get better with age. Feed her often during the day every 2-4 hours so she will know its day time and maybe sleep longer at night. The best way I got my son to sleep was to wear him in the baby sling all around with me. Then when I was tired of carrying him I carefully put him in the baby swing. That worked the best until he was a few months older and started sleeping in his crib. Or I had to breastfeed him nonstop to get him to sleep. She is probably going through a growth spurt or learning something new and doesn't want to sleep.

that is definitely not enough sleep within 24 hours. you should probably talk to your doctor. adults need 8 hours of sleep per 24 hours...and your baby isn't even getting that. somethings wrong. babies should be getting wayy more than that in a 24 hour period.

does she wake up screaming? like shes in pain?

my son did this catnapping thing but it was because he had pain from reflux, it was better once the doctor prescribed medicine.

if it is not pain maybe it is just a phase, my baby barely napped when he was newborn, now he can nap for 3 hours sometimes.

wether your baby is sleepy or alert both is normal, some babies sleep a lot others sleep very little. If she is crying and unsetted in her awake time then try puttin her onto hungrier baby milk this should fill her more if not then she is just a wakeful baby. Maybe she may sleep longer if you perhaps invest in a baby swing it rocks baby and they almost always nod off in it and fee safe and cosey in them as they would a car journey, good luck no one said parenting was easy

My sister did that. She most likely has colic. Try to put Infant's Mylicon Drops in her bottle or just give it to her straight.
