Not "lately", but every spring we get brown bears from the mountains surrounding my town on both sides. We start seeing bears about March, but they're hibernating here now.

Never have seen a black bear, we just have garden varity deer at dusk, gators from the lake (300 feet away) that come out to sunbath as the overnight lows dip into the 40's, bobcats that hangout in the trees, occasionally a Florida panther ( what a majestic cat ) . We've never had an attack from the wildlife in the yard , but the feral "kitty cat" population does go up and down.We are blessed in the fact that the University of Florida and the Shand's Hospital own most of the acreage between here and the Ocala National Forest just south of us and with no intention of selling.

the main suitable protection against black bears who've become semi-domesticated such using fact those you're writing approximately is a sturdy offense-needless to say they are being drawn by way of the fruit-this is been postulated that bears have different the main comfortable noses interior the animal kingdom, their feats of 'sniffing out' a food source are mythical, so maximum possibly using fact the fruit season is going away, the bears will maximum possibly additionally, whether they're a nuisance, and that they could be a possibility to human existence and actual to pets and assets, so, you may cope with them. I recommend you talk on your close by pastime and fish authority, enable them to appreciate what is going on, they could have a source for you, what I easily have considered used with stable consequence is a 12 Gauge shotgun, loaded with shells that have a fused fee. Upon discharge, the 'slug' will leave the barrel, and explode, making a very loud noise. Bears are very comfortable to loud noises, and this could be all it takes, with 'reminders' on a prevalent foundation in the event that they return...do no longer try this in case you at the instant are not comfortable with firearms, or without convey permission type the fish and pastime individuals, and don't make the blunders of attempting to load a shot shell with rock salt, that could paintings interior the flicks, yet isn't extremely helpful for a submit to, and could get you mauled by way of the submit to on your problems. otherwise, submit to info your place, and inspire the friends to do a similar, using fact the bears won't in any respect leave...

Yeah we have been seeing more bears every year last year there were 4 shot within 5 miles and this year before hunting season we know of at least 2 different mothers 1 w/ 2 cubs and 1 w/ 3 and two great big males. And that's just what people have seen and talked about.

Yes, I've seen bear. I live in the Pocono Mountains.
Been 6 feet in distance from bear. Beautiful Brown eyes.
And yes, I know, leave them alone and I do. The bear was just as startled as I was and ran away. Quite an experience.
I moved here because of the wildlife. Just love the bear and deer.
I bought the lot next to my house to try to stop urban sprall, but the developers keep coming.

My brother found a "Bear Warning" notice taped to his door a few months ago. Our part of the country is a lot more wooded than it was years ago, so there is a lot more wildlife lurking around. Some things like coyotes and moose, that were gone for a long time, have decided it's safe to move back.

Javelina, coyotes, and deer but no bears. Until recently, we lived adjacent to a wilderness area where we sometimes saw bobcats and fox in addition to the javelina, coyotes and deer. We feel sure there were bears and elk nearby, but we didn't ever see them. I'm in a rural part of northern Arizona, so this is pretty typical.
The most important thing is not to feed them and to accept the fact that pets are not completely safe if left outside.

Not in my neighborhood, but a neighborhood about 4 miles away. The poor bear was wondering around the neighborhood...and this is not a newly built neighborhood, it's near downtown and has been there for decades.
I suspect that new development has cut off the routes between wildland areas and so the bears now cruise our streets.

Werw having trouble up here in the Allegheny Forest!!! Weve seen about 30 bigfoot up here, but still cant capture one,or at least get video or a pic!!! Seriously though, the more woodlands they tear down, the affects on animals, and eventually homeowners is terrible!!! The animals are forced to find food and they come to urban areas and are more aggressive toward people and pets!!

Hi Shortstuff, I also live in SC, in Charleston, there was a bear sighting at the closed Naval Weapons Station. The perimeter is enclosed with razor wire, we have no idea how he got in there! We do know that there are alligators in there though

About 3 or 4 months ago, this summer, there was one that had a stroll through town (pop. 2000, including surrounding area) but wandered away before the local constable could be found to decide what to do with it.
