It's about corporal punishment, not the occasional slap on the butt.

Here's wording from the proposed law:
"The provisions of this section shall not preclude any adult from using incidental or minor physical contact designed to maintain order and control, or other discipline which does not constitute corporal punishment."

Read the whole law here:

Re Jessica's Law, Massachusetts already has a law whereby they track offenders with GPS monitors.

There is a difference between Spanking and Beating.........and a swat on the behind never hurt anyone.

I can't believe that people of this country can't see what has happened to our youth in this country. These little people will someday be responsible for my well being. I think my parents have said the same thing about me....growing up and their parents said to them and so on. But that was before the government got involved with family disipline.

There is NO respect being taught to most of the children of this generation. That has to be taught between 0-5. When they enter school, their peers take over. I believe in time-outs, but a swat on the bum doesn't hurt. Most of the children, now days, because of the governments interference, think their family is a democracy.......I'm sorry......it should be a dictatorship. They have every right to voice their oppinion, but the final decision is mom and dad, because they are the ones responsible for their childrens actions!

Any disagreement hurts the parents more then the child. The childs attention span grows with them. The parents hold on to it with guilt and the child has forgotten it soon after they don't get their own way. That's mother nature. The children will never learn the true meaning of right and wrong if everytime a child disagrees with the parent, the parent gives in.

Now days the parent explains EVERYTHING. The children are not as dumb as they make out to be. They know the reason for the time out or swat. Then the parents explain and the child has won. It becomes a game to them. That doesn't mean the child is bad. They live what they are taught, and if getting mom and dad to feel guilty benifits them, no matter what age, they pick up on it and use it to their benifit. That's called human nature.

I don't like spanking, But if you have a child that won't listen for their own good, one spanking....two spankings....by the third time the parent let them know the possible consequence of their actions..........the action usually is not needed. Time outs (without explanation) works, then have the child explain to you WHY. You'll be surprised

Remember..........parents,in general, love their children....... and the last thing they want to do is make a child cry. It should be a last resort. But it should be allowed.

The parents have lost control of their children because the government has gone to far with children's rights. If the government wants to pick up the tab of who is responsible for the child's action, then continue, otherwise.........find a definition for the difference between spanking and beating

Teachers can't discipline any longer. Parents can't do so and now spanking. Yep...... no wonder there are problems.

Of course some people take it too far but most don't. The threat should still be on the table.

My parents didn't wack me much at all. My mother did give me a good butt whipping once with a wooden spoon. After that she carried it in her purse. If i got out of hand all she had to do was reach toward or even look in it's direction and I would settle down.

No spoon contacting butt needed. Just the implied threat that it COULD happen was enough.

I agree, I think the spanking "law" is ridiculous. I was spanked when I was bad, and I'm fine. Sometimes a kid needs a swat to keep them in line

Spanking is fine between consenting adults.

Tip:
massage the bumcheeks first it will make the spanking more enjoyable.
