One if my acquaintances recently told me she only reads/buys books by black authors. If the book is a good read, why worry about the color of the author. I think this is a very low opinion of someone so educated.

I hardly ever pay attention to who the author is when I find a book that looks interesting, if it is good then I'll look and see if I can find others by them...but I've never picked a book based on the gender or colour of the author. Sad, she is missing out on so many great books.

I think it is a matter of taste. Some people prefer books by black authors because they can relate more to the characters. I actually read both black and white authors. I find no problems with your friend that is just her preference. in fact I think more african americans need to support their authors. I do not think the white following for African-American authors is very great. Most AA read white books but it is not the other way around. I doubt most non AA people even go to the African American section of the book store. (If they have a seperate section). Personally I do not read contemporary romance by white authors only black authors but I do read white historical romances.

Personally I believe buying and reading a book simply because the author is black or white is rather narrow minded. I am a man yet I really enjoy historical novels written by female authors. I suppose if one worked at it a bit one could make a case of racism here.

When I buy/read books I usually dont even know the author's gender, and almost never race. I just buy/read books because they sound interesting.

I doesn't matter to me what color skin the author of a book has. We only cheat ourselves when we live our life by the color of our skin.
