Hi,
Please help me.
I have bad back pains when im on my period but (luckily) no stomach cramps.
How can i ease the pain?

& Also, I started my periods 3 months ago and im on my period now, but since i started i haven't had a bath just a quick wash. This is because i don't want to go in the bath and have pink water in there as i will probably feel faint and dizzy.
I also don't want to get blood on the towel after as my dad hates blood and doesnt know i've started (i don't think anyway) only my mum knows.
PLEASE HELP!!
btw, im 12 so abit new to ''womanhood''.

Hi,

A bath is great at relieving aches and pains. You could also have a look in the chemist, most of them will stock medicines, gels, heat pads and so on for pain relief - try a few different things and see what works best for you.

Regarding the bath, don't worry, you won't make the water pink! Although it seems a lot, even the heaviest of periods actually only produce a very small amount of fluid. So, particularly if you put lots of bubble bath in, you won't notice a change in the water at all.

If you still don't feel comfortable having a bath at this time of the month then why not have a shower? If you don't have a shower you can buy a shower attachment fairly cheaply, it clips on to the bath taps and then you can take it off again when you're done.

You can use a wipe, tissue or some toilet paper to clean yourself afterwards. If you do get blood on the towel then just put it in the wash or run it under the tap and scrub it with some soap, it should come out fairly easily.

Don't worry about your Dad, all women have periods, and I'm sure he is used to it after being with your mum for so long.

Try paracetamol for the back pains, this also works for other aches and pains. But, if you're mother hasn't told you by now, you are probably not smelling too fresh!! It won't hurt you to take a bath and you won't bleed into the water. Dry between your legs using some toilet tissue which can be flushed away, but don't use talcum powder there. Your Dad will definately know, he has already had many years reading the signs when your mother is on her period. If you are using sanitary towels, change them frequently throughout the day. If you're worried about taking that first bath, just have a shallow one, long enough to get clean, then as you gain confidence, you'll get more relaxed about it.

Firstly i am sure your dad would be proud that his little gisl had entered adulthood. Congrats to you!!! Your personal hygiene is a seious thing, especially when on a period. When i am on my period i get bathed just before bed time so that it helps me to relax and wind down. Try taking some pain relief such as feminax though check with your mum first as they contain a small amount of codine. Ask your mum to get you a hot water bottle for any cramp you may get and so you will not feel awkward about towels ask if you can have a towel set just for you and if you do get some blood on it only you will see it easing any anxiety you may have. Try learning how to use the washing machine "another step to womanhood!" so you can wash your own towels. good luck.

i know what you mean about the bath thing. thats why i only have showers at that time of month. its a lot less gross!when i was living at home i had my own towel that i could use incase i got anything on it. that way you can just wash it afterwards.
if yor pain is really bad you can go on the pill ,it helps a lot. if you dont fancy that, i've always found lying on ym back iwth a water bottle underneath me really helpful.

You can take a bath, as long as you aren't worried about the blood, and wash that area well - you shouldn't get blood on the towels that way. And to heck with your dad - it's a natural thing for you to have your period. If he's that worried about it, run a load of laundry on your own...leave him out of it.

If your back is hurting that bad, ask your mom to take you to an OB/GYN for a check up...it shouldn't be that bad on you this early in your life...there could be something wrong in there...it is safer to check it out now!

Well, your mom would be great for you to talk to about this..and if you don;t want red bathwater...then why not just shower? You don't lose enough blood to get faint or dizzy, as that blood is already outside of you viens, and no longer bieng circulated, As for the towel, dry all of yourself off, then, use toilet paper for your problem area..Also, talk to your mother about approving the use of tampons-girls best friend
